I have always loved the mysterious and haunting story of the Golem of Prague; I loved the idea of a creature of clay created and brought to life to protect the Jewish population from hatred and violence and the idea is especially resonant and poignant with antisemitism once more on the rise across Europe. The idea of the Golem sleeping somewhere until he is needed again is reminiscent of the legend of King Arthur which also captured my imagination as a child and resonates with me still.
I have been working on designs of the Golem patrolling the streets of Prague for several months now, lino print, drypoint etching and screenprint and this is my newest piece.
I hope you love this picture and see it as a comforting, protective image, as I do. My ancestor was involved in this story and working on this design has meant a lot to me.
This is a 10" X 6" screenprint, hand printed in vegan-friendly ink on heavyweight 50% cotton cream printing paper.
The print will come in a cream cardboard 12" X 8" picture mount with a 10"X6" aperture, ready for framing, with a 2mm thick backing board, and protected by a cellophane bag.
